Background : The uric acid level in blood was probability increased in people age 30-50 years old or still included in the productive age. The high level of uric acid in blood called hiperuricemic have the possibility to be gout disease which has caused many of clinical manifestation. The present study intented to know the correlation between age and the uric acid level in the laboratory of Puskesmas Srimulyo, Triharjo, Sleman Yogyakarta.
Methods : The design of the study was an observational analytic using cross sectional design. The population in this study was all patients who have examined at the laboratory of Puskesmas Srimulyo, Triharjo, Sleman, Yogyakarta from period May-June 2012. Sample was taken by purposive sampling with inclusion and exclution criteria. The data were collected by measuring the level of uric acid in blood, interview and observation. The data were analyzed by using univariate statistic test and then followed by bivariate test by using correlation test.
Results : The result of the study showed the characteristics of research subjects age group 51-60 years (68.0%) at most, based on the sex, the most research subjects sex was woman (65.3%). The uric acid level in patient with age 30-60 years old showed that 53 patient have high level of uric acid and 21 patient with normal uric acid level. The average of uric acid level in patient with less than 50 years old was 6.17 mg/dl, and the average of uric acid level in patient with over 50 years old was 7.17 mg/dl. Based on the results of correlation analysis with Spearman Correlation showed coefficient of correlation (r) 0.305 with 95% Confidence Interval and sig. 0.008. This mean there was correlation between age and the uric acid level with the great of correlation was 30.5%.
Conclusion : There was correlation between age and the uric acid level In laboratory of Puskesmas Srimulyo, Triharjo, Sleman, Yogyakarta. People with older age have the possibility of increased uric acid level.
