Changes in Knowledge and Adherence to Taking FE Tablets in Pregnant Women through Anemia Booklet

Abstract

Background: According to Riskesdas, the rate of anemia in pregnancy in Indonesia has increased by 11% from 2013, around 37.1% to 48.9% in 2018, but decreased by 21.2% in 2023. The increase in anemia also occurred in Southeast Sulawesi province with anemia rates in pregnancy by 2.1% from 2021 to 2022. One of the actions to prevent anemia can be done by providing health education related to anemia, so that innovation is needed in health promotion efforts to increase knowledge and compliance with taking Fe tablet in pregnant women. Objectives: Therefore, this study was conducted to determine changes in knowledge and compliance with taking FE tablets with the use of booklets in pregnant women. Methods:  A quasi-experimental with a pre-post test control group design was conducted to see these changes by involving 110 pregnant women who live in the Lawa Health Center Working Area, West Muna Regency. Sample calculation obtained 39 respondents who were taken by proportional stratified random sampling. Instruments using questionnaires and analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Independent Sample T Test. Results: The study's findings that there were changes in knowledge and compliance with taking Fe tablet with health education through anemia booklets in both the intervention and control groups, with more significant changes in the intervention group compared to the control group. Conclusions: The booklet can be used as an alternative in health promotion efforts so that it is expected to increase knowledge and compliance with Fe tablet consumption in pregnant women.
